Frequently Asked Questions
Ring Hallmarking Questions
Will the ring come hallmarked ?
Hallmarking actually started from 1300 but the Birmingham Assay office which Buy Rings Direct uses was established in 1773 and is depicted by using the anchor as its mark. All Buy RIngs Direct rings come hallmarked.
Why does the ring need to be hallmarked?
By law a manufacturing jeweller must send all items of gold and platinum over 1 gram and all items of silver over 3 grams to one of four assay offices in the UK. Also it is illegal for a retailer to sell an item of new jewellery over those weights without a hallmark, which consists of makers mark, metal grade, assay office and date letter.
